Natalie makes the rounds

Everyone’s favorite gamine actress, Natlalie Portman, showed up at NYU yesterday to speak to students about micro-finance in developing countries.
She talked about her visits to Uganda, Mexico and other countries, where she saw how FINCA’s microloans (particularly those for women) empowered and changed communities. She explained how the community becomes responsible for one another, holding others accountable and developing a sense of real unity.
She’s pretty near perfect, this one. Our intern Nick saw her speak and snapped the fuzzy picture above with his cell phone. He said that she completely changed his life. Now that’s inspiring! He also said she was sort of hilarious between breaks in being uber-serious and impressively articulate in answering difficult questions about economics and capitalism. When one fiery revolutionary student asked a passionate question, she addressed him as “Che”, lightening the room as everyone laughed.
