Actress Michelle Rodriguez has been released from jail early just 17 days after being incarcerated, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Web site. Rodriguez best known for her role on Lost, was sentenced to 180 days for violating probation stemming from her DUI arrest. The judge who sentenced her for a DUI-related probation violations had ordered that she fully serve her 180-day sentence. In a court hearing yesterday the judge expressed her displeasure about the plan to release Rodriguez early, but ultimately said the Sheriff controlled the jail. A law enforcement spokesman said the Sheriff felt he had to treat Rodriguez the way he treats every other female inmate.

Because of severe overcrowding, the standard is to release every inmate after they serve 10% of their time. Even though the judge objected the Sheriff felt equality was more important. Whatever happened to dealing with prisoners on a case by case basis?
